Tie Quilts

Recently I cranked out three of these tie quilts in one week. They were a lot of work, not to mention heavy. They seriously had to weigh about 20 pounds each.

I love the story behind the quilts. A couple from my home town recently returned from Russia as presidents of one of the LDS missions there. They collected a tie from every missionary that served under their direction. (Even the sisters.) Each missionary wrote their name on their tie. It took three quilts to incorporated all 150 ties. The quilts were pieced by my client, quilted and bound by me.

The client also requested that I add some words to the white spaces in the quilt which included names of the cities in their mission, as well as some inspriational phrases.

Oh, this is very cool! What a great idea!

I have a quilt top ready for you, just trying to figure out what to do about batting and backing. I'm going to post a call for donations and then I will be ready to ship it off to you!
